2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.

The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
