Ten convicted of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's significant age difference.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A longstanding false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
